The gift of the present

A few thoughts and quotes that have been bouncing around in my head for a while…

“We express our mode of being in three tenses of time — I was, I am, I will be.  God expresses His mode of being in the eternal present — I am, I am, I am.”  How cool is that!?

“Life is presented to us, so to speak, in tiny little packages.  We live it moment by moment.  The future lies before us, but we cannot experience it until it touches us in a fleeting moment of the present before it recedes instantly into the past.  We can anticipate the future and recall the past, but we live in the flickering moment we call the present.  In God’s mind, however, the past, present, and future are swallowed up in the all-embracing present.”

Phillips, John.  Exploring Ephesians & Philippians.  Grand Rapids: Kregael Publications, 1995

“Each day is given us for a purpose.”

“Every day is a gift; that’s why they call it the present.”  This is a good reminder to me to enjoy each day, live it to the fullest, and, as someone told me recently, “enjoy immensely the life God has graciously given you.”  Enjoy it, no matter what it brings, and learn the lessons God has in its different seasons.
